AVU Praha | Final Exhibition 2022

Many women have to face hormonal conditions and illnesses that affect not only their physical well-being but the psychological as well. Leading on from my previous sculpture titled ‘Struggle’ that mainly covered the physical aspects (and specifically approaches to Motherhood and fertility) of dealing with conditions such as PCOS, I wanted to focus on the psychological experience this time. Going through this first hand, I transferred my own mental struggles into something physical. 

Main choice of material is wood. Something truly natural, beautiful and yet… still can rot, crack and break apart. 

The wooden standing figure is titled ´Ja´ meaning ´Me´ in my natural tongue. This is my first 1:1 wooden and non wooden figural sculpture. A small scale figure in wood compliments the large sculpture through the position of the body suggesting a closed and full of emotion person. This is accompanied by a true to size portrait and 2:3 model, both modelled in clay and then cast in plaster. All of which are first time experiments for me.

Finally, on the wall you can find self portraits made by soft ground etching. Titled (from left to right): Siblings, Sister and Brother.
